During the study leave just before the final semester exam of the B-Tech life, I needed a trip to refresh my mind. I often try that thing, refreshing mind before doing something serious. This time it is to start studying.,oops..at least to try it. ;) I asked my pals whether they are gonna come with me for the trip. And the team setup--Me, Sandeep, Vishnu(VB) & Rahul(MohanUnni) and the destination was Thommankuth at Thodupuzha.
Due to uneven raining patterns, we took the option to go by bus rather than by bike (no 4 wheeler was available for our trip). Started the trip from Changanassery at 9.15. We all met at PMJ complex (8.40am) and had masaladosas from Annapoorna hotel. We got a bus to Thodupuzha just when we reached Kottayam KSRTC Bus station. The rubberised road to Pala kept the journey much comfortable and we reached Pala by 10.55am and later Thodupuzha by 11.40am. We missed a bus just by few minutes, so we waited till 12.05pm for a bus to Thommankuth at Private Bus station Thodupuzha. Meanwhile, we bought some snacks and bottled water for the lunch!
Forgot to say, this trip was sponsored by Sandeep as a treat for his success in participating TV show 'Kayyil oru Kodi R U Ready?' and he won Rs.1Lakh in it. Thank you buddy. :)
Thommankuth is 17 km away from Thodupuzha in the Vannapuram route. It is an Echo tourism center and is famous for the Cascading water falls. 7 waterfalls in cascades will be an awesome experience for every nature lover. The rich forest with lot of screaming beetles makes a music with the stream flow.
We reached Thommankuth by 12.45pm and need to cover 2 more kilometers from the main road. Auto-rikshaws are available for that 2km. The Entry Pass is cheap (RS.10 per head) and we started our exploration.
The place is beautiful and we really loved it. The stream is quite dangerous and many had lost their lives in it. The pleasant flow may deceive you, coz it had got a good flow velocity in deep. Also many deep, 'well' like pits in rocks which may cause real danger. So beware and be alerted and act with a brain!!
Lots and lot of butterflies were in the forest and they seemed little fearless like the Nilgiri Thars of Munnar.
We had our lunch on a rock right in the middle of the water stream. It was an awesome experience. :)
Walk through the forest is a feast for the eyes. The climate wasn't much cold, but very humid and we were sweating like heavy rain. And it was about to rain in real when we reached the third waterfall. We took some photos there, and then find a blood sucker in my leg.:) The leech was about to start its lunch and I took the weapon(common salt) from my personal travel tool kit and he/she/it whatever, lost his/her/its damn lunch!! :D
We were short of time...so we stop going further upwards and decided for a re-visit very soon .
We left the 'Eden' at 4 pm and reached home back by 10 pm. Some of the photos we took is shared here.
If anyone needs any information to make a trip to this place, please feel free to ask.
Keep re-visiting. :)
Have a nice time.
